Basal metabolic rate uses the Mifflin–St Jeor equation. The activity factors are planning multipliers, not part of that 1990 paper. The result is an estimate of calories to maintain weight. It is not medical advice. These figures are estimates only. They are not a diagnosis, medical advice, nutritional advice, or a substitute for care from a qualified health professional.

- Enter sex, age, weight, and height.
- Choose the activity level that matches a typical week.
- Read the daily energy and the resting figure it started from.
Formula used
Mifflin–St Jeor equation, times an activity factor
Mifflin–St Jeor. Men: 10×kg + 6.25×cm − 5×years + 5. Women: the same expression with − 161. Daily energy multiplies that result by 1.2, 1.375, 1.55, 1.725, or 1.9. Both results are rounded to the nearest calorie.
Source. Mifflin and colleagues, American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, February 1990. Men: 10×kg + 6.25×cm − 5×years + 5. Women: the same expression with − 161. This page multiplies that result by 1.2, 1.375, 1.55, 1.725, or 1.9. Those activity factors are separate from the 1990 paper. PubMed 2305711.
