Arithmetic mean

Average = sum of the numbers ÷ how many numbers there are.

Source. The average is the sum of the numbers divided by how many numbers there are. A list that contains a non-numeric entry has no result.

• Every entry has to be a real number. A word in the list produces no result, rather than a skipped value.

Is this the same average as the standard deviation page?

Yes. Both use the arithmetic mean. The standard deviation page also shows how far the numbers sit from that mean.
